Hello there!

My name is Siobhán McGonigle and I’m a self-employed writer, editor and proofreader. I help solopreneurs, SMEs and multinationals connect with their audience through copy and content that engages, educates and empowers.

Since I was a teenager, I’ve loved writing – the poetry that clumsily captured my teenage angst, the travel journals that faithfully recorded the sights, sounds and smells of faraway lands, the regular letters to my many penpals that helped me shape my views on the world. Writing was never a chore, just words and emotions spilling onto paper in my then-neat handwriting.

Fast forward to 2019 … past an undergraduate masters in translation and linguistics, past 15 years of corporate roles that all revolved around communications and writing, past years of freelancing on the side and writing for friends, past bringing three children into the world, an amicable divorce, a professional burnout … when I finally dared to spread my freelancer wings.

And I wish I’d started earlier! As someone who is eternally curious, I love the variety my work brings. Delving into new sectors and topics, forging new relationships, constantly honing my skills to deliver more impactful copy and content … to help YOU reach your goals!

What journey can we set out on today?

How I stay on top of my game

Being good with words isn't all that matters when you're crafting effective copy and content. That's why I'm always building and reinforcing my knowledge in related areas that help me deliver a better all-round service.

I've followed training in digital marketing with the Digital Marketing Institute and am still pursing training in search engine optimisation with Kate Toon, conversion copywriting with Copyhacker's renowned CopySchool programme, and UX design with the Interaction Design Foundation. I've also been a member of Belinda Weaver's Confident Copywriting community, and also love to follow writing and business-focused topics in Masterclass, Udemy and other platforms.

Always curious, always learning, always improving!

  • I was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, which means I have both Irish and British citizenship. If I tell you I’m Irish, please don’t question that 😉

  • I’m divorced and my kids spend half their time with me, and half with their dad – that usually means one FULL-on work week, followed by one that moves to the rhythm of my kids.

  • I was scared of cats as a child, but now can’t imagine life without one (don’t tell my cat-loathing other half!). I’m still easily scared of dogs even though we have our own Springador.

  • Although I love a good coffee, tea (with milk, obviously) is my go-to drink. Pantone 13-1009 TCX is the closest I've found to the perfect colour for tea.

  • I love to knit (like the jumper in the photo above!) and always use circular needles, whatever I’m knitting.

Give me a brief outline of your needs and timing via email at siobhan@copymatters.eu, and we can schedule a call to discuss in more detail.

I'm based near Brussels, Belgium, and my typical working day is 09:00-17:00 CE(S)T on weekdays. Depending on your needs and timing, I may also be able to offer evening and weekend availability.
